“Made Aljo fight 3 months after Henry” – Fans fear UFC will strip Aljamain Sterling’s right to immediate rematch ‘purely out of hate’

Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling lost his title to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292. The two displayed incredible performances, and O’Malley secured a TKO victory in the second round. In the post-fight press conference, Sterling immediately pushed for a rematch.
However, fans are skeptical about the UFC granting Sterling his desired rematch. During the post-fight press conference, Sterling emphasized, “100 percent what I would like the most.” He believes he has the right to an immediate return bout. However, the new Bantamweight Champion Sean O’Malley has other plans.
O’Malley secured a stunning second-round knockout, showering a barrage of punches after he laid down Aljamain Sterling on the canvas. The latter was knocked down by a powerful right hand from O’Malley, followed by a flurry of punches that Sterling somehow could not defend against. This led to the referee intervening, calling it a TKO. However, many fans are calling for a setback, claiming it was an early stoppage on the referee’s part.
Before this setback, Sterling was riding high on a nine-fight winning streak. His reign as Bantamweight Champion included successful defenses against top fighters like T.J. Dillashaw, Henry Cejudo, and Petr Yan, the last of whom he unified the title against.
Fans react to Aljamain Sterling demanding an immediate rematch after UFC 292 loss
Given his impressive track record in the UFC, one could argue that Sterling shouldn’t need to rebuild his way up the division. UFC 292 was a significant commercial success. Even though O’Malley may get more credit, the company should have no doubts about the rematch’s drawing power. However, fans believe otherwise. Here are some of the reactions from Twitter:
On the other hand, O’Malley seems to have different plans. In the Octagon, he expressed his desire for a December fight against Marlon Vera, who handed him his only professional defeat at UFC 252 in August 2020. Considering O’Malley’s popularity, the new champion will have no shortage of options for his first title defense.
