Francis Ngannou stole the headlines after signing a monumental contract with the Professional Fighting League (PFL). After making his boxing debut this year, Ngannou will compete in the promotion in 2024. However, UFC president Dana White spoiled Ngannou’s achievement by announcing blockbuster fights for July’s UFC 291 PPV card.

Dana White and Ngannou have a troubled relationship that emerged from a difficult contract negotiation. The African fighter left the UFC after failing to agree on a new contract. White waited for the perfect opportunity for revenge. He revealed the UFC 291 PPV card featuring the BMF title fight between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje to steal the headlines from Ngannou’s new MMA contract.

Dana White said, “Former champion Dustin Poirier takes on another former champion Justin Gaethje for the vacant BMF title between two of the baddest dudes in the game. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz takes on former middleweight champion Alex Pereira in his [Pereira’s] first fight at light heavyweight.”Jorge Masvidal was the inaugural BMF champion of the UFC. However, Masvidal retired after losing at UFC 287, opening the door to crown the next BMF champion.

Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje will compete for the vacant BMF title. This will be the second fight between the former lightweight champions. Previously in 2018, the two fighters fought in a five-round main event with Poirier getting the TKO win. Gaethje will look to avenge his loss and claim the BMF championship at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City.

The fight card features the return of former middleweight champion Alex Pereira in the light heavyweight division.
