UFC 285 was going to be a real test for Kazak fighter Shavkat Rakhmonov. The welterweight came into this fight with a record of 16-0. Geoff Neal being tough as nails showed great durability and managed to give his opponent the toughest test of his career.
After two-and-half rounds of back-and-forth, Shavkat landed a dangerous combo and went on to submit his opponent in the final minute. The submission looked deadly as Neal fell right to the ground after Rakhmonov let go of him.
Fans were reminded of UFC 285 headliner Jon Jones‘ submission against Lyoto Machida. Shavkat’s walk-off submission has made the entire world acknowledge his ‘killer’ instincts inside the octagon. The finish against Neal has kept the fighter’s 100 percent finish record intact.
Twitter reacts to Shavkat Rakhmonov announcing himself to top of the welterweight division
Rakhmonov’s fight against Geoff Neal had similarities with Khamzat Chimaev’s against Gilbert Burns. Both fighters who are huge prospects faced tough veterans and passed the test. But unlike Khamzat, Rakhmonov managed to finish his opponent.
Fans now want to see the Kazak fighter take on Chimaev in the octagon. That seems to be the dream matchup along with a Rakhmonov vs Colby Covington fight. With a 17-0 record, the rising welterweight could be very close to a potential title shot.

I don't know if Khamzat will ever make 170 again, but Rakhmonov vs. Chimaev would be outrageous. That felt eerily similar to the Burns fight. Shavkat just throwing caution to the wind in pursuit of violence.
