A recent video showing Kamaru Usman and Islam Makhachev interacting caught the attention of fight fans on Twitter. The combat sports community started talking about the interaction on social media. UFC uploaded the video, which showed Islam Makhachev and Usman talking about weight cuts in Abu Dhabi.

The video was uploaded by the official X account of UFC with the caption, “Boys are feeling good heading into #UFC294.” Fans quickly noticed the disparity between the fighters who are two weight classes apart. Even though Usman is the number one ranked welterweight, he is competing in the middleweight division at UFC 294. The interesting thing to note in the video was that Makhachev looked bigger than Usman. The size disparity made one fan comment, “How does Islam look bigger than him,” beneath the UFC post.

Like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Islam Makhachev cuts a lot of weight to make the lightweight limit. Usman has never missed weight, albeit at welterweight. Usman in his interview with TMZ Sports, detailed his plan of winning the middleweight title and going back to win back his welterweight title. On the other hand, Makhachev detailed his plan of wanting a second title at welterweight during his interview with BT Sports.

With the recent short-notice replacements, Alexander Volkanovski and Kamaru Usman, UFC 294 is shaping up to be one of the best pay-per-view events of 2023. The original pay-per-view had Russian fighters taking on Brazilian fighters in the main and co-main event, but Charles Oliveira and Paulo Costa withdrew due to injury. They were replaced by Volkanovski and Usman, respectively.

From the fan reactions, it was evident that the combat sports community is eagerly awaiting UFC 294. Moreover, one fan even predicted victory for both fighters. Another fan accused Makhachev of being a weight bully. Interestingly, one fan accused both fighters of using IVs. Nevertheless, the overwhelming sentiment in the comment section was that short-term replacements upgraded the UFC 294.
