“Maybe Islam was right” – Fans shocked as Alex Pereira receives his Jiu-Jitsu brown belt following victory at UFC 281
Alex Pereira with his coach
The UFC middleweight belt isn’t the only addition to Alex Pereira‘s collection. The newly crowned UFC champ now is also awarded a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt following his win this past weekend.
Not long ago, Alex Pereira shocked the world by dethroning the former UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 281. The Madison Square Garden witnessed the crowning moment of the Brazilian as he shut down his nemesis for the third time in his career. Not long after his amazing win, “Poatan” is now officially a BJJ brown belt.
Pereira’s coach, Plinio Cruz has been awarded the newly crowned brown belt in BJJ. Fans are puzzled by this award given Pereira knocked out Adesanya on the feet at UFC 281 main event fight. Not long ago, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev spoke the harsh truth about several UFC fighters receiving belts of high ranks in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Fans are starting to believe that Dagestani was right in his statement following the latest news of Pereira. The Brazilian middleweight won his fight via TKO (punches) and barely showcased any of his jiu-jitsu against Adesanya despite the fight going to the ground in some of the rounds. Twitter was flooded with reactions as Alex Pereira received his brown belt.

Fans were shocked to find out that Pereira is now a brown belt. The newly crowned champion, despite his amazing win, did not find success on the ground against his arch-nemesis. Check out some of the reactions from the fans.
idk if they’re teaching him Jo Jitsu or some other bullshit, but whatever brown belt that is, it’s not BJJ because it certainly wasn’t on display last saturday when he made Izzy look like Prime Khabib. https://t.co/eCWopYX2tu

dude has 0 ground game and he's a brown belt in bjj ? some gyms truly give belts away like candy.

Safe to say fans aren’t happy about gyms handing out belts like candy to UFC fighters based on their status. Islam Makhachev was very serious about many fighters not having the skills to be worthy of BJJ belts and several fans are now coming to an agreement with that statement. What are your thoughts on Pereira’s new belt?
