“Worry about retirement” – Fight fans blast Darren Till for wanting to obliterate Bo Nickal in a fight
Darren Till (L) and Bo Nickal (R)
Darren Till’s comments about wanting to face and defeat Bo Nickal inside the octagon have not sat well with MMA fans.
Darren Till is currently navigating tricky times in the UFC. In the last couple of years, he has continuously slid down the welterweight and middleweight rankings. After his rousing walkout to “Sweet Caroline” at the Echo Arena in 2018 (where he beat Stephen Thompson), Till has not shown the same level of promise as the UFC would have us believe. The UFC heavily promoted Darren Till in his rise to the top, when he fought Tyron Woodley for the title.
Coming off a loss to Derek Brunson in 2021, Till has already had a bout cancelled with Jack Hermannsson, in July this year. Thus, when he reacted to that dominating performance by Bo Nickal, fans did not take to it exceedingly well.
He wrote on Twitter, “Bo nickal is looking good, be good to meet up with him in the future in the octagon. Drive the left hand through his skull…”

To this, people replied, “You are close to being cut by the UFC. Your last fight was a year ago…..you are the best bum for this guy. The UFC Zia going to feed Bo some east fish for a bit and then put him up for a title sooner than he deserves”, “1-4 in last 5. Worry about retirement.”
“Shut up! Just make sure you make it to your actual fight this time” and “Darren – you can’t stay healthy, both physically and mentally. You trash hotel rooms and pull out of fights. Just stay Khamzat’s water boy and move on with your career.”, were more tweets that took a nasty swipe at the Briton.

Darren Till takes on Dricus Du Plessis in December
While the fight has not been confirmed, a verbal agreement has been reached between Darren Till and South African grappler Dricus De Plessis. The fight will most likely take place at UFC 282, in Las Vegas.
Dricus De Plessis is coming off impressive victories – a TKO win over Trevin Giles and a decision victory over perennial middleweight top 15 Brad Tavares. Du Plessis isn’t a world beater yet, but he has skills in his arsenal that could really hurt Darren Till.
Till hasn’t done too well against grapplers. Back in 2018, when he was awarded the title shot against Tyron Woodley, Darren Till looked like a fish out of water. His latest match-ups have further accentuated the major hole in his game.
Last September, against Derek Brunson, Till looked utterly lost on the ground. What further worsens his case is the fact that he had Brunson rocked, but stumbled to a quick rear naked choke to the American.

In Du Plessis, Darren Till will come up against a strong and muscular grappler, who can dominate him on the ground. However, we must not forget Till’s striking ability – he has been able to drop both Robert Whittaker and Jorge Masvidal. Add to that, he now trains with Khamzat Chimaev, one of the best all-rounded fighters on the roster. Could this fight be the resurgence Till so clearly requires?
