Alexander Volkanovski vs Islam Makhachev at UFC 284 concluded after a nail-biting and closely competitive fiver-rounder. Islam Makhachev came out as victor via unanimous decision. A large contingent of the MMA community strongly felt that Volkanovski was robbed of a victory after the Aussie champ finished the fight with Makhachev on his back.

Following shouts of robbery, Alexander Volkanovski claimed to have won the fight in a tweet after the UFC 284 event. “Just watched the fight, I definitely think I won 2,3, and 5. Surprised I didn’t get my hand raised! Let’s do the rematch, anywhere, anytime!” the Australian champion tweeted.

UFC legend, Nate Diaz also congratulated Volkanovski for the display of a spectacular performance. Fans now believe that Volk might just have shown other lightweights the blueprint to defeat Islam Makhachev.

Alexander Volkanovski announced in his post-fight interview that he would come back to lightweight after his next title defense at featherweight. In the featherweight division, newly crowned interim champion, Yair Rodriguez will be looking to fight Volkanovski for the undisputed featherweight title.

Nate Diaz slams Islam Makhachev after the Dagestani champion scores a unanimous decision over Volkanovski

UFC veteran and former welterweight, Nate Diaz took shots at Islam Makhachev after the Dagestani champion successfully defended his title against featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski. “Yeah right, Islam got his a** whooped,” Diaz tweeted.

Joe Rogan and his fight companions, Brendan Schaub, Eddie Bravo, and Bryan Callen also reacted to the decision and believed that Volkanovski won the fight. American boxing coach, Teddy Atlas tweeted “Sometimes you can lose a fight and still win, Volkanovski did that tonight.”

As Yair Rodriguez looks forward to becoming the undisputed featherweight champion, Volkanovski has announced to come down to 145 lbs to defend his title. Volkanovski has reviewed the fight and believes to have won three rounds.

Makhachev has taken over the #1 P4P rank after his unanimous victory and retained his UFC lightweight title. A rematch with former champion, Charles Oliveira might be in the making for Islam Makhachev since the rest of the division has been cleared out by Oliveira.
