Chael Sonnen was recently invited to the popular Andrew Schultz podcast, Flagrant. In the podcast, the group had great fun and Sonnen dropped some controversial truth bombs.
During the conversation, Sonnen strongly claimed that he knows the guy who gives drugs to LeBron James. Sonnen mentioned that the world doesn’t know that James does take PEDs to play better in NBA matches.
“If the world understood what LeBron did…If you know what these performance enhancers did, then you would know why it does matter. We have the same drug guy, I know exactly what he’s doing,” said Sonnen.
According to the former UFC fighter, EPO is one of the most efficient PEDs out there and it helps players to increase their in-game stamina. He said: “EPO (Erythropoietin) matters, it’s the reason LeBron takes it, it matters. EPO increases your red blood cells, which gives you endurance so you can play all game long.”
Sonnen himself has been found positive for elevated testosterone levels in 2010 during his fight against Anderson Silva. The UFC legend frequently talks about how in the past fighters got away after using PEDs without getting caught.
Is Chael Sonnen’s claim of LeBron James being on Performance enhancement drugs true?
LeBron James in the past has been accused of taking steroids multiple times. James is an athletic specimen and has an impressive body which he has maintained for over 20 years now. His fitness and recovery have helped him to stay at the top for years and recently he also broke the all-time scoring record in the NBA.
When it comes to longevity no one comes near James. With performances like this, it is obvious that he to get under the radar. On top of it, NBA’s drug testing has always been criticized in the past for its lenient drug testing. The NBA has the weakest drug testing policies.
It is hard to evaluate if things have changed and if the testing protocols have gone through many required amendments. However,it is pretty evident that very few basketball players get suspended for PED use in comparison to other sports.
