The MMA world was left in shock after the UFC announced Francis Ngannou’s exit last Saturday. The departure came due to long-term contractual disagreements between the promotion and the fighter. “It took me three years to figure out what went wrong,” Francis Ngannou recalled signing his previous contract.

I wanted to stay in the UFC,” the Cameroonian added. Ngannou was aware of possible big fights ahead of him acquiring the HW title which is why he needed UFC to provide him with health insurance. Francis also demanded fight sponsorships to afford training camps and to pay off his team.

I met Dana before my first fight with Stipe, I didn’t even have a manager then and I had to sign the contract.” The former heavyweight mentioned his last condition, which was to have an advocate during meetings to consult him.

To sum up, Ngannou’s departure came due to UFC’s refusal to provide health insurance, fighter sponsorships, and a manager/ advocate to guide him through the meetings. “The business is valued based on how many fighters they have under contract,” added Francis.
