The former referee “Big” John McCarthy placed Francis Ngannou on the same pedestal as Khabib Nurmagomedov. McCarthy talked about the success of Ngannou in boxing and his ugly exit from the UFC. Talking with former UFC fighter Josh Thompson, McCarthy revealed the respectable quality of Ngannou.

The comments came in the aftermath of the recent boxing contest between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou. Although the bout ended with a narrow split decision victory for the “Gypsy King”, Ngannou walked away with the ultimate victory. This is what Ngannou had to say:

He has his beliefs and it doesn't matter how many frickin' hundreds I throw down, This guy is gonna follow what he believes is right. He cannot be bought, people like Francis cannot be bought. You have to respect it.

Mcarthy added that the Cameroonian had a legitimate claim over the “Baddest man on the Planet” title. The veteran referee couldn’t help but draw comparisons between The “Eagle” and Francis Ngannou. He credited their success to their unshakable moral compass. McCarthy further added:

Both Ngannou and Khabib walked away when it was time. Khabib Nurmagomedov walked away from the sport to obey his mother’s wishes. He turned down huge monetary benefits to spend more time with his family. On the other hand, Ngannou felt he was worth more than his UFC contract and wished to be paid his worth. He walked away from an $8 million a-fight deal to sign with PFL. In the end, Ngannou’s decision turned out better. McCarthy paid his respect to Ngannou’s achievement.
