The recently released trailer of Rockstar Games’ GTA 6 created a huge buzz on the internet. This game will mark the return of the GTA franchise since 2013. However, the male protagonist in GTA 6 resembled UFC champion Sean Strickland, and it captured the attention of the MMA world. Sean Strickland acknowledged it and wrote down a controversial statement comparing Rockstar Games with EA Sports.
EA Sports and the UFC partnered up to deliver five editions of the UFC Game. They recently released the fifth interaction in October 2023. As such, it featured Sean Strickland as a fighter and he used it as an opportunity to take a dig at EA Sports and mocked them for presenting trans female characters in their games. Here is what he said:
I'd rather be in @RockstarGames than a EA game... But to EAs credit they give the fans what they want...... we have always wanted to play as a disabled trans female in WW2.. thanks EA....... you really deliver.Sean Strickland via X
In his tweet, Sean Strickland referred to a character from Battlefield 5, which portrayed a female with a bionic arm. The game received criticism for its misleading depiction of the World War 2 setting. EA Sports has advocated for the LGBTQ community. As such, it introduced the first playable transgender character in season 15 of APEX Legends. However, Strickland wasn’t a fan of it.
Strickland is popular in the combat sports community. With his recent championship win, he has risen to a new level of fandom. As such, Sean Strickland welcomed the fans’ view on the GTA 6 character being compared to him. Next, he faces Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 297 for his first title defense.
Sean Strickland’s championship win against Israel Adesanya
Strickland was heavily criticized for his awkward fighting style in MMA. However, he clapped back at the critics with his phenomenal performance against Israel Adesanya at UFC 293. He performed a masterclass in defensive boxing and striking clinic to win the middleweight championship.
Israel Adesanya was set to fight Dricus Du Plessis in UFC 293. However, due to an injury, he was sidelined, and Sean Strickland pounced on the opportunity. Likewise, coming into the fight, Sean Strickland was a huge underdog. As such, no one expected a dominant performance from him. He won the fight on the judges’ scorecard as all the judges scored the contest 49-46 in favor of the American.
After this spectacular performance, Sean Strickland got his much-deserved respect. Now, he is the reigning UFC middleweight champion and is riding a three-fight win streak. He faces Dricus Du Plessis in January 2024 for his first title defense.
