“I could turn the switch” – Georges St-Pierre issues BOLD statement on his potential return
Georges St-Pierre
George St-Pierre is a perennial candidate atop most people’s top five UFC/MMA fighters of all time, and with good reason – the Canadian showed exemplary skill within the octagon and exceptional humility outside it.
When GSP returned to the octagon after a lengthy absence away from it in 2017, most people still had him as the favourite going into the middleweight championship bout against the first UFC champion from Britain, Michael Bisping. And, he didn’t disappoint – in the 3rd round, St-Pierre latched onto the Briton’s neck, and from there, it wasn’t a question of if, it was a question of when Bisping would tap.
Since his unofficial retirement, fans have paired him with fighters they would have liked him to challenge – principally among them, Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, Georges St-Pierre has been ambivalent on the questions of his return.
Now, he has issued a statement that could reverse things. He said, “I could turn the switch if I wanted to, and make a comeback, but my heart is not there.” Hence, his words can be interpreted to symbolize the fact that despite him having faith in his ability at 41, he does not feel completely enticed to make a comeback. Maybe Dana White could help with that!
Dana White stopped Georges St-Pierre from making his boxing debut
The wish of most MMA fighters to make a switch to boxing is well documented – the ring pays way better than the octagon, and also is a better promotional tool. Many high-ranking athletes have attempted to switch over to boxing, but only a very few have succeeded.
Despite losing to Floyd Mayweather in 2017, Conor McGregor remains the biggest success story of someone transition from MMA to boxing (albeit, for one fight only). The bout between the Irishman and the American broke the records to become the second largest fight PPV of all time!
Last year, GSP let out a little dirty laundry against the UFC and Dana White by revealing the fact that the UFC president had once stopped him from materializing his lifelong ambition to enter the boxing ring. The bout could have materialized against veteran boxer Oscar De La Hoya, but White stopped it in its tracks.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani last year, St-Pierre said, “At first he says to me that the reason why he did not want it is because he thought that Oscar would basically destroy me in a boxing match.”
Clearly, the Canadian did not seem too happy about how the situation had proceeded with White and the UFC. Now that GSP is out of his contract with the company, he is free to choose newer pastures for himself – that is, if he still harbors the intention to.
