The vacant UFC heavyweight championship will be on the line as Ciryl Gane takes his second chance at the title since his previous loss to Francis Ngannou. Originally speculated to fight Francis, Jon Jones had to be scheduled with Gane due to Ngannou’s shocking departure from the UFC.

Jon Jones is a controversial fighter both in and out of the UFC octagon and has been a consistent performer despite his troubles outside the cage. However, his troubles and demons from the past have only driven him to perform better as a fighter.

The weigh-ins concluded with Jon Jones at 248 lbs and Ciryl Gane at 247.5 lbs, both evenly matched up in size. Jones is a complete fighter with the most notable resume in MMA history. Jones’ only loss in his career has come from an illegal elbow landed on his opponent, Matt Hamill in 2009.

Since signing with the UFC in 2008 as a young prospect, Jon Jones made his way up to the rankings and became the light heavyweight champion in 2011. Prior to his title shot against Shogun Rua in 2011, the fighter was on an impressive win streak.

Jones’ only loss came in 2009 against a fellow light heavyweight, Matt Hamill. In the bout, Jon Jones was already dominating Hamill from the top and scoring takedowns. However, the referee decided to stop the fight due to an illegal elbow landed by Jones on a grounded Matt Hamill.

Thus, giving Jones a loss by disqualification. The DQ loss is the only loss on Jones’ resume and is believed by many as the fight Jones would’ve won if it hadn’t ended dramatically. This one loss has previously been used against Jones to debunk his claim on the GOAT status in MMA.
