Strickland shared an Instagram story that featured his girlfriend after UFC 297. He alluded to a headbutt in the video that damaged his vision. This made fans on social media debate whether there was a headbutt or not. Nonetheless, this is what he said on his Instagram story.

After Strickland made the statement, a video went viral on social media. The video showed the moment when Strickland got a cut on the eye. However, it was not clear whether it was a headbutt from Du Plessis that caused it. Nonetheless, the cut appeared on Strickland’s eyelid immediately after Du Plessis’ head appeared to graze Strickland’s face. Blood spilled after the alleged headbutt.

Media members asked Du Plessis about the headbutt at the post-fight press conference. However, Du Plessis appeared to not know about it. Nonetheless, Du Plessis has already set his first title defense in motion with a callout of Israel Adesanya. Strickland must defeat at least one contender before he fights for the title again.
