Is Islam Makhachev the bogeyman of UFC? Fans chime in on interesting debate
Islam Makhachev
Islam Makhachev is undoubtedly one of the biggest talents to ever grace the UFC octagon. However, we have never really seen the Dagestani lightweight tested inside the octagon. Who is to be blamed for Makhachev not fighting top opponents? The fighter himself or the lightweight roster?
Islam Makhachev made his UFC debut in the year 2015. Since then he has fought 12 times inside the octagon. Despite having only one loss and a 10-fight winning streak, the fans never really got to see the Dagestani against a top-ranked opponent.
Makhachev was rumored/booked to fight several top-ranked lightweights but the fights never really happened. While many blame the Dagestani lightweight for his poor resume in the UFC, fans began to point out the number of times Makhachev was deprived of a top-ranked fight.
Twitter user, “@Sa_Gwang” pointed out the number of fighters that failed to accept a fight against the Dangerous Makhachev. Other fans came up with interesting arguments for this tweet. Check out some of the exchanges.

He was ranked #15 in 2019 since before the Davi Ramos fight. Each time he called one of these guys out it made sense lol

Oliveira and Makhachev are set to headline UFC 280 pay-per-view at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The two will face each other on October 22 for the lightweight belt with a lot at stake. Islam will not only fight for his legacy but also that of former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is currently helping Makhachev fulfill the dream of Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
Makhachev vs Oliveira is stylistically a treat on paper. The two will face each other at their best in Abu Dhabi. Neither of the two fighters has faced an opponent like the other before in their career which makes UFC 280 even more special.
