The fight between Islam Makhachev and Beneil Dariush is going to be a very influential bout as it can decide the future lightweight contender. The fight is all set to take place at UFC Fight Night on February 26.

Both the fighters have an impressive record and will be looking to continue winning till reaching the title fight.
Makhachev is on a splendid nine-fight win streak and has proven his skills against fighters like Drew Dober, Thiago Moises, and Dan Hooker. Currently, the fighter is #4 in the UFC lightweight rankings and a win against Dariush will definitely give him a title shot against Charles Olivera.

On the other hand, Dariush has successfully defeated seven opponents in a row and has no intentions to stop now. The American has stopped great opponents like Thiago Moises, Carlos Diego Ferreira, and Tony Ferguson. The hype around the fight is impressive as both the fighters have dominated everyone in the division and will be going all out for the title.

Other than the impact of the fight, stylistically the bout will be great to watch. Makhachev is known for his unmatched wrestling and control on the ground which everyone saw against Dan Hooker. But against someone like Dariush, it will not be an easy task to dominate him on the ground as the fighter is well regarded as a great BJJ user.

Javier Mendez believes that Islam Makhachev deserves the title shot:

Javier Mendez recently did an interview with Helen Yee Sports where he spoke about his views regarding the Makhachev vs Dariush fight. According to the veteran coach, both the guys are on a winning streak and deserve to be in the top contenders in the title race. “The winner of the fight should rightfully have the opportunity to fight for the title,” said Mendez.

Mendez also revealed that in the fight business various unpredictable things can happen, fighters can get injured, fights can be postponed too. But if everything goes right Makhachev will emerge as the new UFC lightweight champion this year. “In a perfect world, Islam Makhachev is gonna win his fight and he is going to win the title,” said Mendez.
