Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski set up a massive fight at the end of UFC 280. The newly crowned lightweight champion is fired about his upcoming super fight.
Islam Makhachev wants that pound-for-pound best status while Alexander Volkanovski wants to become a two-division champion. The stars aligned for both the fighters at UFC 280 as the two were presented with an opportunity to fight each other in the near future. Makhachev and Volkanovski planted the seed for a future title fight in the post-fight octagon interview.
Makhachev has revealed he will be back training after two weeks and will be preparing for a fight against the P4P king, Volkanovski. The featherweight champion has a message from Makhachev for their future fight. “My short friend, can’t wait to meet you again in the octagon,” wrote Makhachev in his latest Instagram post.
In his message to Volkanovski, Makhachev made sure to take a sly dig at the featherweight champ’s friend/teammate, Israel Adesanya. “Just make sure your teammate Adesanya don’t bet his house again,” added the lightweight champion in the caption. Makhachev sure did Adesanya and several other doubters wrong in his fight against Charles Oliveira.
Israel Adesanya does not believe Islam Makhachev is ready for Alexander Volkanovski
Alexander Volkanovski had his eyes set on the lightweight belt before UFC 280 materialized. The featherweight champion has earned his right to contest for the second belt and believes he can become a two-division champion. Makhachev has just shut the mouths of his haters with a fantastic win against Oliveira at UFC 280.
Israel Adesanya, the teammate of the featherweight champion posted a video of him reacting to the amazing lightweight title bout. Adesanya also reacted to Volkanovski stepping into the octagon and challenging Makhachev for the lightweight belt. Adesanya thinks Makhachev is underestimating Volkanovski and is confident his City Kickboxing training partner will get through the Dagestani.
“He [Islam Makhachev] ain’t ready bro. They don’t understand. They don’t understand,” said the middleweight champion watching Makhachev confidently call out Volkanovski.
