One would expect a champion to be wailing and down in the dumps after a third consecutive loss to an arch rival, who has destroyed their unprecedented seven fight long title run – not Israel Adesanya, however.

In almost poetic fashion, Israel Adesanya fought Alex Pereira for the third time, expecting a win in the trilogy, in order to cement his own MMA legacy further. There were other plans in store for him – despite almost finishing the fight at the end of the first round, “Poatan” rallied back to sting and almost send Adesanya to the canvas in the last round, minting himself the new middleweight champion.

Now that all is said and done when it comes to the middleweight title for this year, both the fighters can take some time off, revaluate and move into the new year with fresh ambition. Israel Adesanya seems to be doing just that. Having posted videos reacting to fights on his YouTube channel, attended MMA galas and now shown off his new flame on Instagram, it feels “The Last Stylebender” has no time for morosity.

In an Instagram story posted recently, he and a woman can be seen enjoying their time on a yacht in stunning waters, which we can assume is some beautiful inlet near Tahiti, where he has been vacationing. This is the attitude that every fighter should champion – wins and losses are part of life, but every now and again, they must relinquish a little bit of the pressure they put on themselves to perform even better next time. Even Joe Rogan commended Adesanya’s attitude of being positive in the face of defeat.

Fans, although appreciative of Adesanya’s attitude, had a field day making fun of his stories that might be considered by some to be “braggy.” More than that, however, fans speculated about his sexuality, and referred to the woman as his “beard.”

Whatever the case, it is great to see the ex-champion and future Hall of Famer taking some time off to enjoy himself, before he inevitably tries to regain the title. As he had mentioned himself, he must pay heed to his health right now, if he is to make a triumphant return. Till then, Jared Cannonier and Sean Strickland will bear the flag of the middleweight division, as we approach the end of the year.
