If you followed the rivalry between Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa back in 2020, you’d have never thought that the middleweight champion would have nice things to say about his Brazilian rival. Times have changed and so has the opinion of Izzy on Costa.
Paulo Costa managed to trigger the champ Israel Adesanya back in 2020 as part of his mind games. However, it all fired back for the Brazilian middleweight as the champion finished him with a brutal TKO at UFC 253. It looks like Izzy has put his rivalry behind him as he appreciated “The Eraser” in his recent interview with Ariel Helwani.
Talking to Ariel Helwani, Adesanya admitted that he has begun to like Paulo Costa’s new personality. The Brazilian has become one of the best MMA Twitter profiles to follow for his hilarious content. Izzy is a fan too! “I follow him on Twitter, bro. Don’t tell him. I don’t want him to block me,” said the champ.
Like Costa, Adesanya too has a great sense of humor and is always down to “sh*tpost” on his social media profile. The “secret juice“, “f**k USADA“, and other content really seemed to have impressed the champ. Looks like the two would get along very well two years after their intense rivalry.
When Paulo Costa blamed his “wine” for his loss against Israel Adesanya
There is no doubt that the middleweight title fight against Israel Adesanya is Paulo Costa’s biggest fight of his MMA career. The Brazilian faced a TKO loss to Adesanya at UFC 253 which was held in Abu Dhabi. If the loss wasn’t embarrassing enough, Costa had to deal with all the backfire for talking trash in the lead-up to the fight.
According to “Borrachinha”, the reason behind him becoming a highlight reel in Izzy’s career was because of “lack of sleep” the previous night of his fight. “I was kind of drunk [when] I fought, maybe, on a hangover,” said the middleweight on his Youtube channel, explaining his loss.

In order to get better sleep, the night before his fight, Costa decided to drink a whole bottle of wine and blackout. Paulo Costa reveals he was not the same heading into this fight and was not feeling “very active”. The Brazilian got brutally trolled after he came out with this video. However, Costa has managed to flip the script and lean into the “funny guy” persona and build himself a huge fanbase.
