Israel Adesanya reveals something he’s proud of that nobody knows at UFC 281 presser

Israel Adesanya, the reigning, defending, undisputed middleweight champion of the UFC, certainly has a lot to be proud of. He has cleared out his division, even fighting some opponents multiple times. He has defended his title 5 times in the UFC, beating the likes of Jarod Cannonier, and Robert Whittaker.

Adesanya takes on Pereira in the main event that has been 5 years in the making. The two have a storied history in the kickboxing promotion Glory. Poatan holds 2 wins over Izzy in two kickboxing bouts. With their main event fast approaching, both men butted heads at the press event for UFC 281.

Yesterday, at the press conference, Adesanya was asked a rather interesting question by a journalist. As most asked Adesanya about the fight, his history with Pereira, and his preparation, one journalist asked him “What’s something that you’re proud about that nobody knows?” Adesanya replied, “I am proud with my cooking skills. I’m very coachable, I can follow a recipe. But then when UberEats came back, that went out the window. But I can cook, I chef it up.”

A very unexpected answer but a welcome one all the same. Israel Adesanya’s fans can only hope that he is able to “cook up” a winning strategy against Alex Pereira this time around. As “The Last Stylebender” looks to be on a warpath come Saturday, it remains to be seen who walks out with the UFC middleweight title.

Who’s next for Israel Adesanya if he beats Pereira on Saturday?

Determining Adesanya’s next fight is extremely tricky. He has beaten every fighter in the middleweight top 5, save for Pereira who he fights on Saturday. If he does manage to beat Alex Pereira, who’s next?

One name that was constantly thrown around before UFC 276, was Sean Strickland who was ranked #4 at the time. They even went at it during the UFC 276 presser. However, after his demolition at that event at the hands of Pereira, that fight was quickly dismissed. However, with a fight against Jarod Cannonier coming up in December, a win would certainly raise his stock again within the UFC.

Another option for Adesanya would be to fight at light heavyweight. He has only fought once at that weight, suffering his loss in the UFC against Jan Blachowicz. Adesanya had previously called the move up to LHW a “side mission”. And in an interview with Megan Anderson, he revealed that he was open to another “side mission.”
