Jake Paul has come a long way from being a social media influencer to a serious boxer. Many fans cannot ignore the fact that the 26-year-old has made a significant impact on the combat sports world. Through Vine and YouTube, Paul has earned millions of dollars. Nevertheless, in 2020, he chose a new path to reach an audience in real life rather than a virtual one. He met the former BMF champion Jorge Masvidal during this journey.
YouTuber-Turned Boxer Jake Paul entered boxing when he fought Ali Eson Gib. Later in 2021, after defeating Nate Robinson via knockout, he TKO’d Ben Askren to catch the attention of the boxing and MMA world. Paul got the stoppage victory over Aksren in less than two minutes. This victory opened pathways for Paul to challenge former MMA champions like Tyron Woodley and Anderson Silva.
Paul will compete against Nate Diaz in August. He has consistently called out Conor McGregor and Jorge Masvidal on many occasions. Nevertheless, Jake had a friendly relationship with Jorge Masvidal until the Woodley fight. The former BMF title holder once had a small training camp to help Paul register his victory against Ben. Masvidal also knocked out Askren in 2019 and helped Paul to do the same.
At that time, Jake confessed, “I love it down here, the runs are amazing on the beach, this is a magical, paradise of a place to get your mind right and to just focus on the task ahead.” In 2 years, the friendship turned into a rivalry when Paul fired shots at Masividal’s boss Dana White.
Retired fighter Jorge Masvidal catches Jake Paul off-guard
Jorge Masvidal confronted his former training partner in his hometown of Miami on Wednesday. The retired UFC fighter and rising boxing star met face-to-face in the parking lot to settle their grudges. Thankfully, the security managed to intervene before a potential brawl. Paul’s team filmed and posted the altercation on Betr’s Twitter page.
Jake asked, “Why are you trying to cause trouble?” To this, Masvidal responded and reminded Paul, “Nah, it’s my city.” Then the boxer asked, “It’s your city, so you own this right here? You’ve been saying a lot on Ariel Helwani’s (show). You called me a punk b*tch.” Jorge confirmed, “I did.”
It is not confirmed whether the incident was staged, but it looks like the duo holds particular grudges against each other. Fight fans would not be surprised if Masvidal supported his former BMF title challenger, Nate Diaz, against the younger Paul brother.
