Jon Jones came back after the longest hiatus and still bagged the UFC heavyweight title. The UFC star fought against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 and became the UFC Heavyweight Champion in his debut fight in the division.
With hundreds of thousands of viewers signing in to watch him fight in the cage, there is no doubt Jon Jones is the money fight in the division. UFC 285 reportedly brought in $12.15 million for the company. This is why it isn’t a surprise that many fighters in the promotion want a shot at Jon Jones.
Jones has 27 wins in his professional career and has only ever lost once, and that too via disqualification. He defended his light-heavyweight title for the longest time since 2011 before finally taking a three-year break in 2020. All of this makes him one of the most exciting opponents in the UFC.
Thus, Jamahal Hill, the current light heavyweight champion, wants a shot at Jones. In an interview with The BTM Podcast, Hill revealed that he came to the UFC to take out Jon Jones in a fight. He came in via Dana White’s Contender Series back in 2019 and debuted against Darko Stosic in early 2020. Recently, he took on Glover Teixeira earlier this year. Hill defeated Teixeira and became the UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion, his first title in the promotion.
However, Jon Jones came in a few months later, this time as a heavyweight contender. Hill revealed that he wants to establish himself in the light-heavyweight division before pursuing his dream fight against ‘Jonny Bones.’
Jamahal Hill will take out Jon Jones at Heavyweight
Jamahal Hill appeared on The BTM Podcast where he revealed his dream fight against UFC star Jon Jones. Hill revealed this was his intention ever since his DWCS days. “Jon Jones, Jon ‘Bones’ Jones. Whenever I first came in, you can go back, you can watch the contender series, whenever I first came in, that’s who I told them. That’s who I’m here for.“
‘Sweet Dreams’ revealed his hesitation about continuing his MMA career due to the low fighter pay that has been an issue forever. “ I want to take him out,…You know, before I stepped away for a while because I didn’t feel like the money was there, I didn’t feel like the bag was there”. But he mentioned Conor McGregor and how that inspired him to go after the big-money fight which is Jon Jones.
“Then Conor McGregor happened and he showed alright you can get a bag off of this. So then I came in, alright, so who do I actually have to go after and try to make that fight with, to where I can actually get to that? And, he was the guy. He still is,” Hill said. For now, Hill’s focus is on establishing himself in the Light-Heavyweight division. UFC is reportedly looking to book him and Jiri Prochazka for the upcoming UFC 292.
