Regarding the middleweight division, Jared Cannonier recently revealed two fighters he’d be willing to fight. Cannonier is the fourth-ranked contender in the UFC’s middleweight division after UFC 293.
Cannonier said he deserved a title shot in an interview on The MMA Hour. Particularly in light of his victory over the current reigning champion, Sean Strickland, in December of the previous year. Furthermore, Cannonier said, “If you don’t want to give me the champ, give me the contender, which would be Dricus du Plessis, right? Or give me Israel Adesanya.”
Hence, Cannonier believed he deserved to fight the current middleweight champion, Strickland, since he had already defeated him. Subsequently, Cannonier mentioned that he was unaware if Israel Adesanya has a rematch clause or not in his contract. Nevertheless, Cannonier remained confident that Strickland would want to redeem his loss against him next if given the chance.
Fans and experts such as Dana White have stated that Adesanya was not the same in his fight against Strickland. Hence, the rematch between the two seems probable, but after Cannonier’s petition to White, this may change.
Jared Cannonier is confident he will beat Sean Strickland
Cannonier fought the current middleweight champion, Strickland, at UFC Vegas 66, where Cannonier won the fight with a split decision. Hence, Cannonier believed he deserved a title fight, and Strickland would also want to redeem his loss.
Furthermore, Cannonier believed he could win against Strickland again if they fought for the second time. After witnessing Strickland’s fight against Adesanya, Cannonier stated he would have an aggressive fighting style in the rematch. Hence, Cannonier wants to end the debate about the better fighter between him and Strickland.
Subsequently, he also wished to earn the UFC middleweight champion title by defeating him. Although Cannonier has called out Strickland, there has been no response from his side and no confirmation about his next opponent.
