“It’s DEFINITELY different-” Jared Cannonier gives Israel Adesanya the edge under MMA rules over Alex Pereira come UFC 281

Israel Adesanya- Jared Cannonier- Alex Pereira

Jared Cannonier is a very tough fighter to brawl out his way to victory with techniques, but he is also very articulate with the choice of words he speaks and the fighters he predicts to win. Cannonier, the former UFC title challenger is the only person in history to have knockout wins in 3 UFC weight classes, namely, heavyweight, light heavyweight and middleweight. Cannonier’s list of wins includes the likes of Kelvin Gastelum, Anderson Silva, David Branch, Ion Cutelaba, Cyril Asker and many more.

In an interview with Helen Yee, Cannonier talks about his next fight against Sean Strickland on this December, Strickland’s finger infection, Strickland’s press-conference tactics back at UFC 276, Khamzat Chimaev’s weight miss at UFC 279 and much more. In the last bits of the interview, Cannonier also talked about his prediction for his former opponent Israel Adesanya‘s upcoming title defence against Adesanya’s kickboxing rival Alex Pereira. Cannonier answers to whom the MMA rules favour more.

“It definitely favours Izzy more,” says Cannonier. “He’s been here longer, he’s had all these five-round championship fights with the best in our sport, it’s definitely different, he definitely has the experience in that regard. He has altered his kickboxing style more for MMA. Alex still has that kickboxing sough of base if you will… not to say that it’s a detriment to him but it can be exploited as far as MMA goes…” says Cannonier confessing that the power does lie on Pereira’s side.

Other than predicting Adesanya vs Pereira taking place at UFC 281 in New York, USA, Jared Cannonier also predicted next month’s UFC 280’s main event, a lightweight title fight taking place between former champion Charles Oliveira and longtim Dagestani title prospect Islam Makhachev, for the vacant UFC lightweight championship. Here are Cannonier’s immediate thoughts about the fight.

“That’s a tough one man,” says Cannonier “But I am gonna lead towards Charles Oliveira. Oliveira is a world-class grappler on the ground, he’s not afraid to be there and he’s not, he just doesn’t get taken down and goes limp like a wet noodle or anything like that, he’s actively searching for finishes, looking for strikes off of his back, if he’s on top, he’s definitely trying to hit you hard and finish you and his striking has come a long way as well…” continued Cannonier.
