Tony Ferguson is gearing up for a hyped comeback against Paddy Pimblett. The lightweight showdown at UFC 296 is thus to take place on Dec. 16 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In his prime, the fighter was once to face Khabib Nurmagomedov. UFC commentating veteran Joe Rogan has weighed in on the long-past incident, and a false propagation.

‘El Cucuy’ was to face the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed title, at UFC 223. But the striker (24-3 at the time) had tripped on some wires and tore his LCL (lateral collateral ligament), six days before the bout. The rumor was that he was wearing sunglasses in-house during an interview. Speaking on an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the host later said:

He wasn't...I said that and I apologize to Tony. Everybody thought that - because Tony wore sunglasses a lot. But no, he just tripped over some f***ing loose wires.

Rogan had later revealed that then-President Dana White stated Ferguson was wearing his famed eyewear indoors, which was a running ritualistic gag. This was at a media event, which correspondingly caused him to trip over. It was later revealed by Ferguson himself that those were prescription glasses.

Rogan and the fighter have had a long-standing love-hate relationship. The duo is also famous for Ferguson infamously picking up the commentator, despite a skid to Nate Diaz at UFC 279.

Joe Rogan labeled ‘Animal’ Tony Ferguson as the scariest 155lber

Joe Rogan has been the UFC’s color commentator for over a decade now. The MMA enthusiast has close ties with many combat personalities. One such personality would be Tony Ferguson, who lightheartedly scuffled with him and Daniel Cormier over an appearance on his podcast. ‘El Cucuy’ is an entity marked by ritualistic extremes like his love for eyewear, and knee-slide opener before a matchup in the Octagon.

Ferguson’s tenure as a lightweight veteran marks both long streaks of wins and skids. He aspires to rectify a six-fight loss streak against Paddy “The Baddy” Pimblett at UFC 296. Time and again Rogan has commended Ferguson’s highlights. Check out what Rogan once said about his victory over Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 283.

Tony Ferguson’s an animal...He’s the scariest guy at 155 in my world cause he don’t get tired. That ‘Cowboy’ fight freaked me out. ‘Cowboy’ looked like Tony had bricks in his gloves. His face was all busted up, Tony didn’t look like he had a scratch on him and Tony wasn’t even tired. It’s crazy man, he has insane power. It’s a weird thing cause Tony does stuff to people and he doesn’t get tired.

Recently Rogan weighed in on “seeing some benefits” in Ferguson’s unconventional training against Pimblett. The fighter has enlisted the guidance of former Navy SEAL David Goggins for this course of action and has undergone rigorous training.
