“He fu**ed up,” Joe Rogan claims Khamzat Chimaev’s THIS mishap cost him the UFC title shot he deserved

On his podcast JRE, Joe Rogan expressed his belief that Khamzat Chimaev’s career took a hit when he failed to make weight for his scheduled fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 279. This fight, which had significant hype, was canceled because Chimaev missed weight by 7.5 pounds. At that time, Dana White was extremely hyped about the fight and had high hopes for the event’s financial success.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Chimaev couldn’t make the required weight, resulting in the fight being called off. In that emergency, Tony Ferguson stepped in as a replacement, and Nate Diaz secured a victory with a guillotine choke. Meanwhile, Chimaev had to fight Kevin Holland at the same event. Joe Rogan believes that Chimaev missed out on some major opportunities due to his weight issue.

He said, “Khamzat really f****d up when he didn’t make weight against Kevin Holland, against Nate Diaz. Because if he made weight against Nate Diaz and has a great showing against Nate Diaz, that guy’s got the next title shot. He’s a f*****g star. He’s just got that thing.”

Chimaev faced a considerable wait for his next fight after defeating Holland at UFC 279. The Swedish fighter is currently gearing up for a highly-anticipated showdown against Paulo Costa. This bout is set to occur on October 21st during UFC 294. But given the fighter’s popularity, all this could have taken a lot less time.

The reality behind Khamzat Chimaev’s failed weight cut at UFC 279

After Khamzat Chimaev beat Kevin Holland at UFC 279, Joe Rogan confronted the fighter during the post-fight interview. In that interview, Chimaev mentioned that he would lose weight, but the UFC doctors told him to stop.

This raised a lot of questions, and many fight fans started making their assumptions. Some talked about conspiracy theories made by the promotion to give Nate Diaz the Tony Ferguson fight. However, as the initial dust settled, many things were cleared.

Dana White mentioned in one of the interviews that Chimaev got cramps while cutting weight, forcing the doctors to act. Similarly, Chimaev’s head coach, Andreas Michael, confirmed in an interview with the MMA Hour that it was an unprofessional approach by Chimaev that resulted in him getting a bad weight cut. Michael also revealed that ‘Borz’ was getting muscle spasms and shaking, which worsened the situation.
