Joe Rogan is a skilled Taekwondo practitioner who was a champion in the sport in his twenties. In one of his podcast episodes on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan talked about a life-changing incident at one of his fights. Here is what happened:

In a podcast with Dave Chappelle, Joe Rogan talked about his Taekwondo days. Rogan revealed that he would always try to knock out his opponents.

I would try to knock people out all the time. Most Taekwondo tournaments, like, most of the tournaments are won by points. They're won by decisions. I won most of my fights by knockout. A lot of them by knockout. Maybe not most of them but I was always trying to knock someone unconscious.

However, Joe Rogan revealed a darker truth about knocking out opponents in Taekwondo competitions. He confessed that although he would pretend it felt great, it did not. He said that in actuality it was shocking and never felt great. Joe Rogan recounted a similar taekwondo match where he knocked out his opponent. However, his opponent never regained consciousness. Rogan who was then 19, felt terrified when his opponent did not get up after the knockout. The incident left a lasting impact on Rogan.

At 19 years old Rogan won the US Open Championship taekwondo tournament as a lightweight. Rogan was a four-time Massachusetts taekwondo champion in his teens and early 20s. He quickly became a black belt in taekwondo. As lightweight champion, Rogan defeated the middle and heavyweight title holders to earn the Grand Championship.

Joe Rogan on getting knocked out during his kickboxing days

Joe Rogan has shared stories about his concussions on his podcast. Rogan said that he has had many concussions, especially from his kickboxing days. He has also said that his boxing skills were not as good as his kicking skills.

After high school, Rogan moved to Los Angeles to pursue a comedy career. He continued to train in martial arts, and in 1996, he began training in kickboxing. He quickly made a name for himself in the kickboxing community, and in 1997, he turned professional. Rogan fought in 11 professional kickboxing matches, winning 9 of them. He retired from kickboxing in 1999 at the age of 21, after he started suffering from frequent headaches and injuries.

Rogan told in his podcast that he has been knocked out a few times, but has never been knocked unconscious. He also said that he has been kicked in the head several times, but has never been knocked out by any of those head kicks.
