Joe Rogan is a renowned lifelong martial artist and host of the podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. Back in February, he was blatantly directed at the addition of the Dagestani MMA prospect Sharaputdin Magomedov. The Russian made his UFC debut at UFC 294. Magomedov traveled down an escalator in a shopping mall in Makhachkala last year. Taken aback by a couple kissing, he said something to the man, who proceeded to punch the fighter. The two brawled and the crowd around them separated them.

However, a later CCTV footage had Magomedov waiting at a shop corner at the mall. He jumped the guy and sucker-punched him. He then stomped the guy’s head before being pushed away by more bystanders. This is what Rogan had to say on the matter:

You got Magomedov in trouble over there...because he beat up a guy who was making out. So this guy was kissing a girl. And he said hey, you can't do that here. And the guy got in his face and they had like a little bit of scuffle...The laws over there are very different. The rules are very different! You are not even allowed to show public displays of affection there.

This year Magomedov made his ADCC Southeast Asia Tournament BJJ debut, which he lost. The fight also had controversy. A viral clip showed him in a heel hook, with him making tapping-out gestures. The referee and the other fighter honored the tapout. But as soon as he was free, he violently charged his opponent.

For the elevator beat-up, he faced charges of hooliganism and public assault offenses. On The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan had also openly criticized Magomedov’s entry into the promotion, notwithstanding his brutal tendencies. He said:

“I don’t understand it. I don’t know what’s going on. I don’t know if they’re, they’re letting guys do it because Bisping did it. But this dude he’s got a dead eye”.

The 29-year-old ‘Shara Bullet’ has an undefeated MMA record, which is an impressive feat. Magomedov is also infamous for losing one dead eye in a fight. While Rogan admired the fighter, he did not fully acclimate to his entry into the UFC.

Sharaputdin Magomedov lashes out at BJJ tournament, attracts controversy

This year, in May, Sharaputdin Magomedov competed in a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu tourney. Taking part in the ADCC Southeast Asia tournament in Thailand, he faced off against Jakub Bilko. During the matchup, however, he got into a physical altercation, barring that of the match itself.

A heel hook caught the fighter. Struggling to get free, he momentarily made a hand gesture that made it look like a tap out. The signage was honored, and Bilko had peeled away. But soon after, he got up and charged over Bilko, kicking him in the thigh while he was down. He consequently, and naturally, lost the matchup. Magomedov later blamed it on facing a much-advanced black belt opponent for his BJJ debut.

Despite this recent skid, he still remains a multi-sport fighter. He has competed and won in many combative avenues. He fights in the middleweight division and maintains an undefeated record. Magomedov has ten finishes by KO/TKO under his belt. He won his debut in the UFC via unanimous decision.
