The highly anticipated UFC 300 event draws near, with fans buzzing with excitement. But one matchup, in particular, has longtime commentator Joe Rogan perplexed by the lack of attention it’s receiving. Rogan sounded off why he believed people discounted Jamahal Hill against the feared knockout artist Alex Pereira.
Rogan believed people were sleeping on Jamahal Hill’s skills in a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. He questioned the hate that Hill received despite being an excellent MMA fighter. Rogan also talked about Hill dismantling Glover Texeira to become the champion.
Jamahal Hill is f*****g dangerous…People underestimate him for some strange reason, and I don't understand it. Jamahal is a one-punch knockout striker at light-heavyweight. A lot of people are picking Pereira to run him over. I'm not sure about that, man.Joe Rogan via The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast
Alex Pereira has had well-documented success in his short time in the UFC. The Brazilian powerhouse is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous strikers in the promotion. He secured both the middleweight as well as the light heavyweight belts in a short span. Optics may present Pereira as the most dangerous fighter but Hill has knockout power as well.
Rogan, however, felt the fight was closer than most people thought. It’s an intriguing take from the veteran commentator who has seen his fair share of surprising upsets. Rogan’s warning fans not to count out Hill might just be the wake-up call they need before placing their bets on the main event!
Joe Rogan voices Skepticism over Holloway vs. Gaethje fight at UFC 300
The MMA world is excited about the stacked fight card at UFC 300. However, one matchup in particular has drawn skepticism from none other than Joe Rogan. Rogan talked about this in a recent episode of his podcast.
Rogan admitted that he’s not a fan of the scheduled five-round BMF title fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. He talked about the size discrepancy of the competitors and recalled Holloway’s fight against Dustin Poirier to give his take.
You know what I hate [about the fight]. Max is a great 45-pounder, Dustin Poirier beat him up at 155lbs. I think those guys are a little bit too big for him.Joe Rogan via The Joe Rogan Experience Podcast
Holloway is widely regarded as one of the best 145-pounders of all time. But the move up to the lightweight division seemed to give Rogan pause. For now, the ever-honest Rogan has made his stance clear – he’s just not feeling the Holloway-Gaethje matchup.
However, Holloway has bulked up properly this time for his lightweight return. Last time, he fought Dustin Poirier on six weeks’ notice. As such, he could not put on the required muscle mass to compete in the lightweight division. Holloway has promised a different outcome this time and only time will tell if he can deliver.
