Johnny Walker congratulated Anthony Smith after his hard-fought win over Ryan Spann at UFC Singapore. Smith injured his eye in the second round. Walker also took the opportunity to clarify that he never attacked Smith’s family. He addressed an incident that had transpired during their fight against each other at UFC on ABC 4.
Smith accused Walker of targeting his family in the middle of their bout. In the aftermath of Smith’s recent win, Walker expressed his congratulations via social media, tweeting, “Congratulations @lionheartsmith for the win, but I didn’t attack your family I promise you.”. The precise context behind Smith’s accusation continues to remain unclear. This has prompted speculations that it may have resulted from the house invasion-related PTSD that the fighter had to endure.
Smith ended his two-fight losing streak with his win over Spann. This victory served as a redemptive moment, erasing the memory of his less impressive performance against Johnny Walker and Magomed Ankalaev in his previous fights. On the other hand, Walker could fight someone in the top five for his next fight.
Ryan Spann had plenty of questionable moments in the fight. His disappointing fight IQ will limit him from cracking into the top half of the light heavyweight division. Smith will get a higher-ranked opponent for his next fight and could climb back into the title picture.
Johnny Walker vs. Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 294
The UFC is returning to Abu Dhabi for UFC 294. One of the notable fights will be between Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker in the light heavyweight division. Jamahal Hill had to give up the title due to an Achilles injury. The main event will feature a rematch for the lightweight championship between Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira. Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa will fight in the co-main event.
Ankalaev has not tasted defeat in the last nine fights. He fought for the vacant light heavyweight title against former champion Jan Blachowicz. The fight ended in a draw. Walker went through a tough time with four losses after an impressive start to his UFC career. Since then, he made an impressive comeback, winning three fights in a row against Ion Cutelaba, Paul Craig, and Anthony Smith.
The Ankalaev-Walker fight adds more excitement to UFC 294 which already has exciting fights. UFC is known to stack up the Abu Dhabi events with popular fighters. The winner of the bout could land a title shot.
