Jon Jones is arguably one of the greatest of all time in MMA. What’s fascinating is he is still active and competed at the highest level for more than ten years. Jones reigns as the current UFC heavyweight champion. As such, Jones looked back on his great journey in the UFC and sent a message to today’s youngsters.

In a recent tweet, Jon Jones recalled his lifestyle ten years ago and compared it to today. He said he wanted to earn more money back then and kept striving for it. As such, he mentioned becoming the highest-paid athlete on the UFC roster currently. So, with this inspirational story, he advised the youngsters not to give up and work for their dreams. Here is what he said:

10 years ago, I was an asshole, young, and immature. Looking for more money. Fast forward, the current heavyweight champion of the world. Probably the highest paid athlete on the roster. Have a great relationship with UFC. God is good. Don’t give up youngsters.

Although Jon Jones claimed himself as the highest-paid athlete in the UFC, a fan pointed out that Conor McGregor held the praise for it. So, Jon Jones replied to the fan, correcting his mistake. Here is what he said:

Jon Jones became the UFC heavyweight champion in 2023 after a three-year layoff. This also marked his move up in weight class and the feat of becoming a two-division champion. Before this, he ruled over the light heavyweight division as the champion and held 13 title defenses to his name. Now, he looks forward to defending his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic upon his return.

Jon Jones injured himself when training for his UFC 295 fight against Stipe Miocic. However, he remained focused on his goal to beat Miocic and mentioned the matchup would take part when he returned. As such, even now, he confirmed this in a tweet when a fan questioned about his retirement. He said beating Miocic was his primary goal and considered it a huge feat.

Further in the tweet, Jon Jones spoke on the business side of their matchup. He claimed a win in their legacy matchup would be massive for either of their careers. As such, he touched upon the callout from Tom Aspinall and dismissed it, stating a fight with him would do nothing for his legacy. With this, he cleared the air around his comeback and still maintained the intriguing aspect of his retirement.

As Jon Jones mentioned, he would return against Stipe Miocic later in 2024. Even UFC CEO Dana White persisted in their matchup and confirmed the news. As such, ‘Bones’ focused on physical therapy to return to health from his surgeries.
