Jon Jones is one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, if not the best. There are many arguments to make in favor of his candidature for the best UFC fighter ever, and not many against,

Jon Jones last fought in March 2020, against the upcomer of the light heavyweight division back then, which was Dominick Reyes. The night controversially ended in Jones’s favour, with it not being clear how Jones had gotten the better of Reyes in three rounds, as the judges’ scorecards read. Unfortunately for Dominick Reyes, he has never looked the same – since losing to “Bones”, he has gone on a further three-fight losing spree, with all of them coming by knockout.

Jones, in the meanwhile, hasn’t stepped into the octagon in more than two years – the reason for that being that the American has, for a long time, been teasing a debut at heavyweight. His former foe Daniel Cormier went on to capture the most coveted title in all of the mixed martial arts, so why can’t Jones himself? All but one of his potential opponents have changed in the pursuit of the long-awaited return – that one man being Francis Ngannou.

Speaking about possibly taking on Ngannou, Jones said to Steve-O, “With Francis Ngannou, it’s very simple. Get comfortable with the worst case scenario. Worst case scenario is – he knocks you the fuck out. He possibly fractures a bone in your face. That’s the worst case scenario. You get real comfortable with the idea.

Continuing, he said, “Then it becomes easy. If he doesn’t knock you out and break your face, you’re smart, you’re fast, you have a chin, you have great head movement, you can wrestle. There is a lot of ways things can play out.

Jon Jones’s long-awaited return to the octagon was supposed to materialize late this year, in a potential super fight against one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, Stipe Miocic. However, according to Jones, Miocic never signed the dotted line to fight.

Now, it seems like the UFC will finally get the intricacies worked out and make the current heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou fight the greatest light heavyweight of all time. It seems like March is the preferred date for the fight, which gives the Cameroonian more than enough time to recover from his year-long absence (due to surgeries) from the octagon.

Additionally, Francis Ngannou has the most terrifying knockout power the UFC has ever seen – will it be enough to counter Jones’s legendary fight IQ? We shall find out very soon.
