Sean O’Malley and Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera clashed in a bantamweight title fight at UFC 299. O’Malley walked away with the win after losing to Vera in 2020. Vera later took to social media to express his thoughts. Here is what happened:

Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera expressed his emotions after the fight on Instagram. He promised to fight and win the belt in the future. Chito thanked Ecuador for their support. Sharing a picture of himself holding the Ecuador flag, he wrote:

The title fight did not go as planned for Marlon Vera. The superior footwork and feints of O’Malley troubled Vera throughout the fight. ‘Suga’ used his technical striking to win each round and defend his title. To add insult to injury, O’Malley landed a hard knee on Vera and rocked him at times. It was one of the most one-sided beatdowns in recent memory.

Despite the loss, Chito promised to once again fight for the title. Top UFC contenders and MMA fighters commented on Vera’s post. Jon Jones, Israel Adesanya, Luke Rockhold, and others showed their support for the Ecuadorian fighter. Vera remains a fan favorite and could feature in a high-profile bout in his next bout. Only time will tell if Chito re-enters the title picture in the future.

Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera ties Jon Jones in a unique stat after UFC 299

Jon Jones is arguably the GOAT of MMA. As such, he has multiple records to his name. Interestingly, Jones holds a record for the most UFC fights without getting finished. For a long time, Jones was at the top of the mountain alone. However, one man joined him at the top after UFC 299.

Chito Vera is a veteran in the bantamweight division. He rose to stardom after defeating Sean O’Malley in 2020. At UFC 299, Chito unsuccessfully challenged O’Malley for the bantamweight title. Suga put on a dominant display but couldn’t finish Chito. After surviving the five rounds, Chito tied the record for most UFC fights without getting finished with Jon Jones.

The chin of Marlon Vera remains one of the strongest in the UFC. With Jones nearing retirement, Chito could one day hold the record if he does not get finished in the upcoming bouts. Only time will tell if that happens.
