Jon Jones appears to have engaged in a Twitter exchange in reaction to Tom Aspinall‘s challenge. Aspinall recently achieved a sensational victory over Marcin Tybura at UFC London. He expressed his ambition to dethrone Jones and claim the UFC heavyweight belt. Jones won the title in his weight division debut against Ciryl Gane earlier this year.
In response to Aspinall’s callout, Jones initially posted tweets that he later deleted. In one of the tweets, he reflected on the trend of everyone being hyped until he overcame them. This has left fans questioning the true potential of a multitude of fighters. The MMA legend also made reference to Ciryl Gane. The French mixed martial artist who was recently considered the future of MMA seems to have faded from the spotlight.
Drawing from his own experiences, Jones expressed a feeling of déjà vu. Over the years, many fighters claimed they would be the ones to defeat him. However, the 36-year-old fighter remains undefeated other than a DQ loss, proving his dominance in the octagon and defying doubters. He wrote, “Sometimes I feel like I have deja vu, everyone’s going to…kick my a**,” in one of his now-deleted tweets. “Meanwhile, I’m over here undefeated with a face full of grey hairs.”
Jones is no stranger to the heavyweight division. He secured the vacant UFC heavyweight title against Gane earlier this year. His performance showcased a level of expertise that made it appear as though he had been facing heavyweights his entire career. His exceptional skills have earned him a reputation as one of the best MMA fighters ever.
UFC champion Jon Jones versus Tom Aspinall for the top spot in the heavyweight division
Back in 2011, Jones made history as the youngest UFC champion at the age of 23. Since then, he has continued to shine, boasting an impressive 19-fight unbeaten streak and securing the UFC light-heavyweight championship twice.
Jones has a professional record of 27 wins and one loss with a singular no-contest. Meanwhile, Tom Aspinall stands with a modest record of 13 wins and three losses, one of which happened last year in the UFC. Aspinall has been consistent in the division and currently ranks #5 in the heavyweight division.
Aspinall’s bold challenge to Jon Jones has captured the attention of fans worldwide. Whether he can back up his words with action remains to be seen. Fans eagerly await Jones’ next move and the potential clash between these two highly talented fighters. Only time will tell if Aspinall can achieve his ultimate ambition and take the UFC heavyweight belt from the hands of the legendary Jon Jones.
