“Truly special”- Jon Jones’s striking coach provides insight on his much anticipated heavyweight debut

Jon Jones is arguably the greatest fighter in UFC history. While many can lay claim to being UFC champions, Jones holds the record of being the youngest champion. Throughout his career, ‘Bones’ has beaten legendary names in the 205-pound division of the UFC. The former champion holds victories over Lyoto Machida, Mauricio Rua, and Rashad Evans, to name a few.

There is no doubt about Jones’ greatness until now. Throughout his career, he has amassed many accolades and records which place him among the elite. However, after dominating the light heavyweight division, the fighter is now looking for a challenge. Since relinquishing his 205-pound UFC belt, Jones now looks to make a mark in the Heavyweight division.

While no fight has been announced yet, Jones looks to have put on size for his heavyweight debut. While the fighter has put on mass, he still looks fast enough for the division. His uploads on social media have got the fans buzzing. While many await Jones’ debut, his striking coach recently gave an update about the fighter.

Due to the controversy, he was involved in, Jon Jones had to stop training at Jackson Wink MMA. The long-time Jackson Wink MMA protégé was released from the gym by coach Mike Winkeljohn until his name wasn’t cleared from charges. While the fighter has found home at his old gym in Jackson’s MMA, he continues to work with striking coach Brandon Gibson.

Throughout his career, fans have credited Jones for his striking. The fighter manages to use his range and often mixes up his strikes. The oblique kick and spinning elbow are some of his signature moves. While so much is said about Jones’ striking, coach Gibson is one of the coaches who can be credited with improving the striking of Jon Jones.

Recently during an interview, coach Gibson spoke about Jones’ heavyweight debut. He also mentioned that it felt great to be a part of the same. “I think the fans are going to be really, really shocked and surprised when they see him at heavyweight… It’s going to be something truly, truly special, and I’m humbled to be a part of it.

There is no clarity about whom Jon Jones will face on his heavyweight debut. However, the name Francis N’gannou and Stipe Miocic often come up as suitable opponents.
