Discipline, pleasure, and appreciation for the opponent are some of the fundamental attributes that a genuine sportsman exhibits, even after their defeat. The true spirit of sports was exhibited after Gregory and Julian after their face at UFC Fight in Austin.

Gregory took to Twitter to share how he felt after his huge victory. He reshares UFC’s Twitter post about respect saying, “It’s all about respect! Thank you for the battle @JMarquezMMA.” In his post-fight press conference, he shows admiration for his defeated opponent saying, “Julian is an amazing guy.”

Julian too exhibits an exceptional level of sportsmanship. He reshares Gregory’s tweet in which he is tagged showing gratitude and respect. He retweets, “Thank you for the lessons.” Marquez further pledged to his fans, that he will take Rodrigues’ setback as a learning lesson.

When Gregory Rodrigues injured Julian Marquez, he was relentless in his pursuit to the finish and lived up to his nickname. “The Robocop” has a lot of grappling experience, but he also possesses some significant strength in his hands. 

On Saturday at UFC Austin, the Brazilian demonstrated his knockout power by unloading a torrent of blows to ultimately put Julian Marquez away in a jaw-dropping performance on the main card. The fight was stopped at 3:18 in the first round after Rodrigues fired a straight right hand that caused Marquez to collapse to the mat and the referee to put a halt to the bout.

Rodrigues won his first fight since a split decision loss in February. He ended Marquez’s brief two-fight unbeaten streak of submissions while becoming the first fighter to do so. He is now 3-1 in the UFC and has been a fun addition to the middleweight class. Furthermore, he rebounded from a defeat in his previous fight, by holding the judges at bay with an excellent first-round knockout.
