Paddy Pimblett has become one of the biggest draws in the UFC. He has been able to get on to the co-main event without having fought against a ranked opponent in his UFC career.
That being said, Paddy Pimblett lost a ton of fans going into UFC 282, during his fight and after it. Akin to Khamzat Chimaev, for a fighter who is universally adored, it seemed almost unprecedented to see him lose favour in fans’ eyes. This started off with him and Dana White calling out Ariel Helwani on their podcast and then him calling for a fight of the night bonus, despite not really performing that way.
After the fight, before the announcement of the decision, it seemed like Pimblett had already started parading around the octagon, expecting the judges to rule in his decision. Although they did just that, the MMA community took to social media to condemn the outcome. If that wasn’t enough, Pimblett also repeatedly asked for a $50,000 fight of the night bonus, which was endorsed by his sponsor, Dave Portnoy, of Barstool Sports.
A fighter’s fighter in every regard, Justin Gaethje took to Twitter to air some of his frustration about the happenings. He wrote, “This makes the barstool guys look really bad. Just bending over for the lad. Fight of the night? Barstool can give him 50k but that performance will never get you a bonus in the octagon.”
Clearly then, it feels like Justin Gaethje agreed with much of what the MMA community had already voiced – because he is a respected fighter, his tweet was amplified, resulting in 20,000 likes.
Dana White blasts Jared Gordon for his showing in the last round, leading to Paddy Pimblett’s win
While many fans believe Paddy Pimblett did not win against Jared Gordon, Dana White differs from it. In fact, White’s statement during the post fight presser caught everyone by surprise.
Choosing to blame Jared Gordon’s strategy for the awry decision, he said, “Gordon had a horrible gameplan going into the third round. You think you won the first two rounds, with the judges, how do you know that? Why go in there and throw away the third round and not go in there and try to fight you’re a** off and win.”

Even though a few agreed with the UFC President’s statements, many believed that it is Pimblett’s value that made White speak in his favour. That being said, this situation is bound to grow in the next couple of days, and it will be interesting to note its development.
