Ramzan Kadyrov invited Kamaru Usman and two other prominent UFC fighters to test firearms in Chechnya. UFC stars Henry Cejudo, Justin Gaethje, and Usman are presently in Chechnya, as guests of Kadyrov. Investigative reporter Karim Zidan covered the story.
Zidan tweeted images of Usman, Cejudo, and Gaethje with the safety goggles and earplugs needed for shooting drills. They can be seen practicing with firearms in the photographs in the tweet. The three fighters were reportedly practicing with weapons at a special forces facility in Gudermes, a town in Chechnya.
Zidan tweeted, “Former UFC champs Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, along with Justin Gaethje, are all currently in Chechnya at the invitation of the republic’s warlord Ramzan Kadyrov. Here they are testing out guns at a special forces facility in Gudermes.”
Three of them were seen traveling together on a private jet in a prior Cejudo post. All of this comes to the limelight when Europe is going through geopolitical turbulence and this visit could rub a few people the wrong way.
Who is Ramzan Kadyrov?
Currently serving as the leader of the Chechen Republic is Ramzan Kadyrov, a distinguished Russian statesman, and military general. He has close ties to several UFC competitors, primarily those who are from former Soviet republics like Dagestan and Chechnya.
He also has ties with former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and rising middleweight star Khamzat Chimaev. His son was also seen sitting beside Khamzat in Madison Square Garden during UFC 280.
Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Khamzat Chimaev’s cousin, and Khabib Nurmagomedov got into a fight at the event, which Ramzan Kadyrov may have helped to resolve. Because of Chechnya’s dubious human rights practices and authoritarian government, the fans did not appreciate Kadyrov’s involvement in the issue. In addition, he has made some surprising statements in Support of Russia for the war on Ukraine.
