Kamaru Usman REPLACED by Alexander Volkanovski as the new pound-for-pound king after UFC 278 loss
Alexander Volkanovski is now the UFC's P4P #1
After reigning in the Welterweight division as well as in the P4P ranking for so long, Kamaru Usman has now been replaced as the P4P king by Alexander Volkanovski. This decision came after Usman suffered defeat at the hands of now champion Leon Edwards at UFC 278 last weekend.
Although Usman was winning the rematch by a huge margin going into the last round. A single mistake in the final minute of the fifth round cost him his title and the P4P rankings. In the last minutes of the fight, he was caught by a leg kick that sent him crashing down on the mat.
This brutal KO loss broke his undefeated run in the UFC as well as his title reign and his 18-fight unbeaten streak. The loss also took his reign as the king in the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings. He has been replaced by the Featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski. Likewise, Volkanovski’s teammate and UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya climbed one spot to No. 2. and Former lightweight champion Charles Oliveira climbed up a spot to No. 3.

The UFC on Tuesday released the updated Men’s P4P list, the former Welterweight king dropped three spots to rest at number 4. On the other hand, the new champion Leon Edwards is a new addition to the rankings in the sixth spot right behind heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou.
The addition of the new Welterweight champion at number 6 also saw the Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling slip to No. 7. While Former UFC lightweight title challenger Dustin Poirier is now ranked one place lower at No. 8 and current UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo and light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka also saw themselves move down one rank as well at No. 9. and No. 10 respectively.
The Australian native is on a dominant run in the featherweight division after snatching the title from Max Holloway at UFC 245 in 2019. He has since defeated the conscious Featherweight G.O.A.T Holloway twice ending the Trilogy by 3-0. The champion has only had one loss n carrier that was back in 2013, his MMA record currently stands at 25-1.
The Australian has defended his title on four different occasions after 2019. He has wins over notable contenders and former champions in Brain Ortega, The Korean Zombie, Jose Aldo, Chad Mendes and many more.
After tearing through the Featherweight division, Volkanovski has now expressed his intentions to move up to Lightweight to try his hands at the Double Champ status. If he succeeds in his quest he will become one of the best Featherweights on this planet.
