“Makes no sense” – Kamaru Usman shares honest opinion on the CLASH between Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz at UFC 279
Kamaru Usman shares his thought on Chimaev vs Diaz at UFC 279
In an interview before his title defence at UFC 278, P4P king Kamaru Usman discusses his thoughts on the fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz at UFC 279. Up and comer Khamzat Chimaev will take on UFC Megastar Nate Diaz UFC 279 on September 10 in Las Vegas. This matchup has become a very controversial topic among fans.
This fight will be the last fight for Diaz in the UFC as he is not renewing his contract with the promotion. The UFC veteran only has one win in the past six years and has recently lost to the title challenger Leon Edwards at UFC 263. While Chimaev has won all five of his UFC appearances in the octagon. Four of his five fights have ended in the first and second rounds.
Borz has won his fights in a very dominant fashion with three of his wins coming in the first round itself. His recent win was against the top contender and former title challenger Gilbert Burns which he won via unanimous decision. This has led many UFC fans to believe that the promotion is intentionally putting on the “worst fight of all time” for Nate’s final fight.
Diaz who has been fighting since 2004 is currently on a 2 fight-losing skid. With a record of 20-13, many fans think that he doesn’t have a chance in this fight against the undefeated fighter. The UFC President Dana White has also stated that if Chimaev wins the fight he will be next in line for the title shot.
Kamaru Usman isn’t worried about Khamzat Chimaev
In an interview with TSN reporter Aaron Bronsteter, the P4P king Kamaru Usman talks about his upcoming matchup with Edwards, what it means to be the pound-for-pound king, a potential move to light heavyweight and his brother Mohammed winning the TUF. He also shared his view on a potential matchup with rising star Khamzat Chimaev.
While talking on the topic of Chimaev, the champion was asked to share his views on the matchup between Chimaev and Diaz at UFC 279. The P4P king stated, “Just to be honest, it doesn’t make any sense at all because you know if you wanna fight the best, you wanna be the best in this division, you wanna fight the champions and you gotta knock off those guys that are right below.”
“That’s why we have ranking system correct? so to fight a guy that’s not even ranked in the Lightweight or Welterweight or Middleweight or Featherweight, you know it makes no sense. But it is what it is, if that gets him a title shot then we will sit down and we will talk with execs if it makes sense and we’ll see what we do.” Usman further added.
