“It was a fluke” – Kayla Harrison strongly believes Amanda Nunes will avenge loss to Julianna Pena at UFC 277
Kayla Harrison talks about Amanda Nunes vs Julianna Pena at UFC 277
Though Amanda Nunes split from her long-time gym ATT, her former teammate, Kayla Harrison is confident that the “Lioness” will become champion once again. The PFL champ strongly believes her former teammate is capable of bouncing back from the loss against Julianna Pena.
This weekend, at UFC 277, the world will be able to witness one of the biggest rematches in the history of the promotion. Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena will fight for the second time with the bantamweight belt on the line. Juliana created history by pulling off an upset victory against the GWOAT, Amanda at UFC 269 to end the Brazilian’s 8-year unbeaten winning streak.
Julianna’s win against Amanda was one of the biggest upsets in history. Though Amanda is coming off a devastating loss, Kayla Harrison believes she has what it takes to bounce back. “I obviously don’t train with Amanda anymore so I don’t know how camp has gone, I don’t know what she’s doing, but she’s talented, she’s so seasoned, and I think that she learns from that mistake,” said Kayla talking to Damon Martin of MMA Fighting.
Kayla Harrison says she would bet on Amanda Nunes to win the rematch
If there ever were to be a move from Kayla to the UFC, she would hope that Amanda remains the champion. Kayla and Amanda have been rumored many times in the recent past to take part in a super fight to find out who the real GWOAT in MMA is. However, Kayla extending her contract with PFL shut down any possibilities for a fight of that magnitude to take place.
Kayla while talking MMA Fighting says Julianna’s performance in the first fight was a once-in-a-lifetime. “I think it was just a fluke. I can’t see it going the same way again. I can’t. Now I don’t know how she’s training, I don’t know her cardio. I don’t know, but if I were going to bet, I’d bet on Amanda.” Kayla is also as excited as any other fan for this upcoming bantamweight rematch.
“She’s not going to make that mistake again. She’s not going to take her lightly. It will be interesting to see how they adapt,” said Harrison, the PFL champion.
