“I felt pretty good about it” – Ketlen Vieira affirms she felt ‘light tap’ from Holly Holm in controversial fight at UFC Vegas 55
Ketlen Vieira claims she felt Holly Holm tap during the fight
UFC Vegas 55 saw some controversial reactions from viewers as Ketlen Vieira secured a split decision victory over Holly Holm in the main event. However, the Brazilian believes the fight could have not gone to the judges’ scorecard in the first place.
Though Ketlen Vieira would be happy she scraped a split decision out of the fight against Holly Holm, the Brazilian has her issues with the result of the fight too. Ketlen and Holly faced each other in a stunning five-round fight at UFC Vegas 55. The fight took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The judges sure did hear an earful following their decision after the fight.
Though Holly outstruck Ketlen in terms of significant strikes in five rounds, Vieira almost ended the fight in the second round as she pulled off a tight submission attempt on the former champion and a legend of the sport. Vieira took a dig at Holly’s approach in the fight and gave an insight on the “light tap” during the second round of the fight.
“I felt pretty good about that and I thought that she actually was doing a light tap,” Vieira said to the media via a translator. Ever since her win over Ronda Rousey, Holly has gone 4-6 in her fighting career. However, this loss against Ketlen sure wouldn’t sit well knowing she was the better fighter in the main event.
Ketlen Vieira explains how Holly got out of the submission
“I saw the referee come close and I looked over to see him coming close. That is when I think she took the opportunity because I looked away from what was going on and she escaped [my choke],” said Vieira in the post-fight press conference.
Despite the controversies surrounding the victory, Vieira believes she deserved the split decision win and said, “But God’s plans, they can’t be denied.” Vieira is now 7-2 in her UFC career and is getting very close to a bantamweight title shot. The fighter has now beaten some of the best in the division and has losses against only Yana Kunitskaya and Irene Aldana.
