Khabib Nurmagomedov was one of the best wrestlers in MMA and solidified his place as an MMA legend. Having retired on top as the lightweight champion, people held him in high regard. Now, ‘The Eagle’ recalled his fight with Edson Barboza and shared a new story about the fight..

In a recent conference, Khabib Nurmagomedov revealed he had spoken to Edson Barboza’s coaches during his fight with the Brazilians. Khabib said he controlled Barboza in the top position beside the Brazilian’s corner, and his coaches advised him to navigate the situation. Hearing this, Nurmagomedov had a hilarious response. Here is what he said:

When I was on top of him and it was very close to his corner and hHis coaches gave him good advice. And I told him 'Good advice, but he can do nothing.' It was very interesting conversation with Barboza and his coaches.

It was no surprise as the Dagestani always spoke to his opponents during fights. But, this was a bit different as he directly spoke to his opponent’s corner. Anyway, Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated Edson Barboza and won a lopsided decision victory. This fight also earned Nurmagomedov a performance bonus and was regarded as one of his best dominant showcases.

Then, Khabib Nurmagomedov went on to win the lightweight title and defended it three times before retiring in 2020. With an undefeated record of 29-0, ‘The Eagle’ hung his gloves, obliging to a promise he made to his mother after the demise of his father. Since then, Nurmagomedov hasn’t returned to fighting, although many rumors suggested he was coming back.

Amidst Khabib Nurmagomedov’s recollection of Edson Barboza’s coach mid-fight, an old clip of Mark Henry speaking about the instance has come to light. Mark Henry was one of Barboza’s coaches who cornered him during his fight with Nurmagomedov. As such, he recalled the Dagestani talking to him mid-fight.

Mark Henry detailed the instance when he instructed Edson Barboza to safeguard his position and not give his back. As such, this received a response from Nurmagomedov. He claimed the former champion stopped his actions and said he wouldn’t take Barboza’s back. Here is what he said:

He talked to me during the fight... I said (to Edson Barboza) 'Oh, don't give your back.' He just stops, totally and looks at me (and says) 'Mark, don't worry, I won't take his back.' He's a maniac.

There are many instances of Khabib Nurmagamodov talking during the fight. All the while, he continued to dominate the fight. However, the illustrious career of the Dagestani came to an end in 2020 following the demise of his father. As of now, Nurmagomedov helped his Dagestani brothers in their quest to succeed in MMA.
