The combat sports bubble is indecisive on Khamzat Chimaev right now. So is the promotion itself. Some align with middleweight Paulo Costa‘s troll on “Gourmet Chechento stop deflecting and fight. Others like UFC CEO, Dana White himself, laud his raw strength and mettle amidst inactivity from the octagon. However, it remains undeniable that ‘Borz‘ has had some exciting run-in moments and activities throughout his career. And as such, he has taken the heat to boxers Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney.

This comes in light of Chimaev’s new fashion of sneering or jesting at others or making callouts whilst inactive. Case in point – 185lbs peer Israel Adesanya’s grappling footage recently left the fighter in splits. Now, he has shifted focus to pro boxing, taking a dig at the sport. Taking to social media, here’s what he wrote on Garcia and Haney’s altercation –

How can you be so close and not hit? MMA is different.

This comes in light of a recently surfaced video between the two that sees them in a minor altercation. A heated back and forth has ensued between boxers Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney. The two will meet in New York for the WBC Super Lightweight title. After notable victories over Regis Prograis and Vasyl Lomachenko last year, undefeated Haney looks to continue his winning ways; while ‘King Ry’ guns for him.

Concurrently, Chimaev has chimed in. Boasting major staredowns with the likes of Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns, the Chechen fighter disagrees with the lackluster altercation. ‘Borz’s remark adds an interesting pinch of flavor to this boxing bout, for April 20th. As for Chimaev, he has his own issues to deal with.

Paulo Costa believes Khamzat Chimaev is shying away from genuine challengers

UFC’s welterweight mainstay Khamzat Chimaev recently poked fun at boxing. This was in light of Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney almost coming to blows; almost being the keyword. Consequently, Chimaev saw this opportunity to gibe at MMA as being vastly different than boxing – a running gag among fans and peers.

However, notwithstanding these, Khamzat Chimaev has his troubles at MMA to deal with. It comes in the shape of Paulo Costa. Costa and him were to face off at UFC 294. But Costa pulled out due to a serious case of staph infection, having to go through a subsequent 3rd surgery. Kamaru Usman stepped in on short notice,  incurring a majority decision skid.

Since then, the middleweight has been angsty on a substantially good fight. Costa has hailed heaps of praise to the Nigerian, saying that he has done a lot in welterweight and should move up a weight class to face him. In the same segment, speaking to Submission Radio, Costa jibed at Chimaev as well. Check out what he had to say:

He prompted that Chimaev wants to fight easier opponents, without any wrestling, jiu-jitsu game, or grappling acumen. All the while avoiding the likes of Israel Adesanya, Robert Whittaker, and others.

As for ‘Borrachinha’ himself, he wants to rehash it out with any loss he has ever faced. He dropped an entertaining back-and-forth at UFC 298, riddled with eye pokes, spinning heel kicks, and a long-drawn brawl.

This was at UFC 298’s co-main event at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. He aspires to perform as such yet again.
