“Wolf Always Eats The Dog” Khamzat Chimaev’s chilling message to Nate Diaz ahead of their UFC 279 main event
Khamzat Chimaev and Nate Diaz
Khamzat Chimaev is set to put a quick end to Nate Diaz’s long and historic career. The two will face off the main event of UFC 279, an event that will also see the return of Tony Ferguson at welterweight against a former Chimaev opponent, Li Jingliang
Many have compared Chimaev’s role to that of a henchman on the UFC’s payroll, asked to go put out a departing veteran so that he has no star power to continue once he’s left the organization.
As many are well aware, UFC 279 is the last fight on Diaz’s UFC contract and it may very well be the last time Diaz appears under the UFC’s banner. However, Chimaev doesn’t seem to hold any reverence for this farewell and is solely focused on it as a contender.

It is fascinating to think that while Chimaev was yet contemplating getting into MMA, Diaz had already won the Ultimate Fighter and was only a year away from getting his big break against Conor McGregor. In fact, Chimaev has himself admitted that he was a fan of Diaz growing up. In a vlog by Mohammed Mokaev, he also reveals that the Diaz brothers are among the most well-known and loved fighters in his hometown of Dagestan and the caucuses.
Chimaev’s attitude walking into the fight shows no signs of prior admiration as was evident in recent promotional footage for the upcoming event. Khamzat said, “Diaz is a tough guy when it comes to a fight, he says he’s a dog, but I’m the wolf and wolves always eat dogs” promising to “eat him up”.
“I’ll make it fast for him, I’m going in, taking his head and going home”, said Chimaev as he promised to make it a short night for Diaz in his farewell. Chimaev has said that he could’ve not taken the fight if he didn’t wish to do so but wanted to stay active while the title picture clears itself up.

Diaz on the other hand had previously campaigned for fights against the likes of Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler and even Tony Ferguson, none of which materialized. The move to accept a fight with Chimaev seems to have been a last-ditch attempt to get out of his UFC contract and explore other avenues of making money.
Sensible bettors everywhere have firmly put their money on Chimaev, the young contender for good reason. However many veterans of the sport have gone on record to say that Diaz may just pull out a miracle win for his last fight. How do you see the fight playing out? Let us know below
