Khamzat Chimaev has been an absolute phenom in the UFC. The “Borz” has defeated every opponent put before him and his mindset is one of the main reasons for his glorious feats.
Khamzat Chimaev had to take on Kevin Holland after the weigh-in mishap at UFC 279 and the Chechen fighter was more than ready to go through the “Trailblazer”. Chimaev won the fight via a stunning submission in the very first round and stunned the entire arena.
The fighter has always had a very “scary” persona about himself and watching the behind-the-scenes Chechen’s fight prep will make you realize the kind of killer Khamzat is. Though Khamzat failed to make weight, he was not going to let that get inside his head and stop him from putting on a phenomenal performance inside the octagon.
Recently, Block Asset’s YouTube channel posted exclusive footage on the fighter’s lead-up to the fight and how he locked himself in “THE” zone ahead of the fight. Khamzat can be seen telling himself, “If anyone is going to be champion, it will be me. Muhamad Ali became Muhammad Ali. Mike Tyson became Mike Tyson, and I will be Khamzat Chimaev.”

Khamzat was the main reason for the entire UFC 279 card to be shuffled. It originally going to be a pay-per-view event headlined by Khamzat and Nate Diaz but ended up being a Diaz vs Tony Ferguson card. Khamzat fought in the co-main event against Holland for five rounds.

The fighter did not need more than two minutes to finish the Trailblazer. Khamzat immediately went for the takedown and completely ragdolled his opponent without absorbing a single strike from Kevin Holland and ended up pulling off a fantastic submission. After his win, Khamzat was fired up in the octagon interview with Joe Rogan.
“I’m the black belt here, I’m best boxer, I’m Mike Tyson, I’m Muhammad Ali,” yelled Khamzat into the microphone as he continued to rile up a crowd that was clearly hating him. UFC 279 will be remembered as the event Khamzat turned heel. It is very intriguing to know what the fighter’s next move will be.
