UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier rose to new heights but with the virtue of Khamzat Chimaev lifting him up! A recent video has surfaced with middleweight contender Chimaev lifting Cormier up in one swift power swoop. The strength of the Swedish mixed martial artist had Cormier ducking for cover the next time around.

The video saw both men locking on to each other in a grapple. However, soon afterward, Chimaev uproots Cormier off the ground quite leisurely. He even pivots and spins him to the other side. Settling him down, he lifts him up again, At which a hesitant Daniel Cormier practically ran and opted for cover. This was not the first time both the fighters had tried a friendly grappling stint. In 2020, when Chimaev started to train at the BJJ in the Gi at Allstars Training Center in Stockholm, the two went at it with a friendly lifting bout.

Chimaev has a rich wrestling background, with a bronze in the Russian junior wrestling championships. He also wrestled for Swedish Wrestling club BK Athén. In 2018, he won the Swedish National Wrestling Championship in freestyle with minimal effort. Cormier, a former Olympian himself, had repeatedly praised his strength.

Standing strong at 12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC, Chimaev co-main events UFC 294 against former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Usman is moving up to the 185lbs weight division for the first time on short notice after Paulo Costa pulled out. Only time will tell if Chimaev manages to do what he did against Cormier to Usman.

As part of a contractual agreement, the combative sports promotion is returning to Abu Dhabi again. Khamzat Chimaev is gearing up to face Kamaru Usman for a middleweight bout in Abu Dhabi this weekend. Ahead of the hyped matchup, head coach Andreas Michael and his Allstars Training Center have banked in on Chimaev’s progress so far. ‘Borz’ has been part of the Swedish MMA gym since he was a 23-year-old, before outshining as a pro fighter.

In the UFC 294 Embedded episode, the coach weighed in on the Swedish hustler on having renewed energy for the matchup. The renewed energy might have risen from his time off from the sport. It took him until the final quarter of 2024 to fight in the octagon. The third episode of “Embedded” follows the featured fighters preparing for fight week. Chimaev and Usman had a virtual sitdown with Chael Sonnen for the documentary.

Over the past several days, Chimaev has shared pictures and videos of the training camp on social media from Abu Dhabi. In preparation for his matchup against Usman, his Brazilian jiu-jitsu coach, Alan Do Nascimento, also helped him out. With said matchup, both the fighters would aim at securing a championship shot against Sean Strickland.
