Sean Strickland and Ian Garry have engaged in a surprising feud. Garry threatened to sue Strickland for defamation after Strickland’s comments on his marriage. This caught the attention of former two-division champion Daniel Cormier.
Cormier provided his take on the matter in his recent YouTube video. This is what he said about the situation.
You don't sue him, you handle it another way. There's no suing and fighting, just like in 'A League of Their Own' there's no crying in baseball. There's no suing in fighting, fellas. Y'all got to handle that a whole other way.
The feud began after Strickland got wind of the controversy surrounding Ian Garry’s marriage with Layla Anna-Lee. Garry’s marriage with Anna-Lee who is 14 years older than he is was the basis of the problem for Strickland. Moreover, the news of Garry changing his surname to Machado-Garry where Machado is his wife’s maiden name further infuriated Strickland.
The nail in the coffin was Anna-Lee authoring the 2012 guidebook, ‘How to be a WAG?‘. The rumors of Richard Cullen, her ex-husband, living with them as the Performance Nutritionist of Ian Garry further complicated matters.
Strickland used his social media platforms to advise Garry to stay away from his wife. Garry took offense to it and threatened to sue Strickland. The personal interaction was leaked by Strickland on his social media. This ultimately put Cormier in a position to provide his two cents on the matter.
Daniel Cormier is not a fan of fighters talking about opponents’ spouses
The recent feud between Ian Garry and Sean Strickland made Daniel Cormier provide his take on the matter. Cormier was not a fan of Ian Garry suing Sean Strickland. He is of the belief that there is no suing in fighting. Moreover, he is also not a fan of dragging spouses into the conversation between fighters.
Cormier said about it in his recent YouTube video. This is what he said about it.
Am I saying Sean's right? No, you don't talk about spouses. I only went down that path once.
Apparently, Daniel Cormier had an intense feud with Jon Jones when they were the big names in the UFC light heavyweight division. Their rivalry was so intense that both spoke about their spouses’ backsides in their trash talk. However, Cormier deeply regrets it as evidenced by his comments on his YouTube video. Nevertheless, Cormier and Jones have never formally acknowledged burying the hatchet.
