Last month, Ian Garry made the headlines when he was no longer welcomed at the Renegade Gym in Birmingham, England. It was the home for the reigning welterweight champion, Leon Edwards. As soon as this happened, Garry stated that Edwards’ team saw him as a future opponent and decided to ban him from the gym. But now, Edwards demystified Garry’s statement and revealed the real reason.

Leon Edwards, in his recent interview with TNT Sports, stated that Ian Garry spread false news regarding his exclusion from the Renegade gym. On that note, ‘Rocky’ mentioned that Garry’s demeanor and attitude at the gym were the reason for his ban. Here is what he said:

Even though I'm a world champion I still abide by the same rules as the amateur... The difference is with Ian, is that when he comes in, he brings his cameras over, his girlfriends and he's late to the sessions, there's a lot going on and obviously, the coaches and the team decided that like, we wish you out in your journey but your culture doesn't; fit our culture.

Further, Leon Edwards spoke about how people in his weight class train with him at the gym, and it wasn’t a problem. Later, he emphasized the importance of following the gym rules as a team and discussed how one person could ruin the culture of the whole team.

Two versions of the story about Ian Garry’s exclusion from team Renegade were floating on the internet. One was Ian Garry’s, and the second was Leon Edwards’s version. However, people leaned towards Edwards’ version because many people advocated for it. Now, Edwards and Garry would be seen together in the leadup to UFC 296. As such, they face Colby Covington and Vicente Luque, respectively.

Ian Garry’s point of view on his exclusion from Team Renegade

Ian Garry trained at various gyms worldwide to improve his overall skills as a fighter. As such, he predominantly trained at Kill Cliff FC, Florida, and Team Renegade, Birmingham. However, he was barred entry to Renegade Gym last month. After several stories floated on the air regarding the incident, ‘The Future’ strongly stated that it was due to Leon Edwards’ coach.

In a recent interview, Ian Garry said that Team Renegade didn’t kick him out of the gym but asked him not to return. As such, he said it was a decision by Leon Edwards’ head coach. As such, ‘The Future’ stated that Edwards’ coach didn’t want him to feel insecure or doubts as he was a potential threat.

However, Leon Edwards dismissed Ian Garry’s side of the story. As such, he said Garry was banned due to his behavior at the gym. Now, both welterweights go into action in UFC 296 on December 16. Edwards defends his title against Colby Covington, while Garry takes on Vicente Luque to climb up the rankings.
