“The BULLY got tamed” – Leon Edwards’ coach believes Kamaru Usman will not recover from the BRUTAL knockout at UFC 278

Leon Edwards coach talks about Kamaru Usman's loss at UFC 278

Leon Edwards has one of the best training teams with him. Especially his coach, Dave Lovell, was one of the main guys who helped the British welterweight comeback in the title fight and became the new welterweight champion. The coach of Edwards recently gave his thoughts on whether he believes Kamaru could win the belt back.

Kamaru Usman was only a minute away from getting a sixth title defense under his belt before Leon “Rocky” Edwards stunned the pound-for-pound king with a devastating headkick that put an end to the reign of the Nigerian Nightmare. Rocky and his team have been on cloud nine since that victory and coach Dave Lovell has been on a media tour talking about his fighter’s fantastic accomplishment.

Dave, not only helped Leon Edwards become the welterweight champ but also gave one of the best mid-fight speeches in the UFC ever. It was all just like a movie. Dave, who is a very experienced man in the sport of mixed martial arts, in a recent interview with MMA Junkie’s Mike Bohn, spoke about how it is almost impossible for Usman to come back from a defeat like that at the age of 35.

Several veterans including Usman’s very close friend, Khabib Nurmagomedov, reckon that Usman is very unlikely to recover from a knockout like that and go back to being his best version. “When a man gets knocked out cold in that fashion, let me tell you, not only can it change his fighting, it can potentially change his life,” said coach Lovell talking to Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie.

Dave talks about how Kamaru has a very aggressive style of fighting where he bullies his opponents into taking the backfoot and dominates every fight of his. “When a bully gets tamed and gets knocked out in that fashion, physically, he can get his body back, ready to come back, but can he mentally? That’s yet to play out. Does Kamaru come back a gun-shy fighter?” Dave questions Kamaru’s ability to come back from that loss.

From what we’ve heard from the fighters and the UFC president, Dana White, it seems like we will be seeing the two welterweights again inside the octagon for a trilogy fight. And this time, the fight could very well be in Leon’s territory, the United Kingdom.
